Judging from this article, I’m a latecomer to the videos of Tim Rowett of Grand Illusions toy shop, but better late than never! The faulty calculator reminds me of an early cell phone I had, which I discovered could not accurately add a long list of numbers. I mentioned this to a friend who worked in cell phone sales, and he said that the electronics were optimized for making calls, not adding numbers. I would have never guessed that any electronics could be made today that couldn’t do simple addition, and I added the numbers (in this case prices in a catalog) about ten times before I convinced myself that the calculator function was off by $0.01.
