After almost year of work, my new book is almost done! Its title is “The Wiring Diagram, The One-Page Beacon for Britain by John Hoskyns, Thatcher’s Top Policy Advisor.”
Today I received the printed proof, and as soon as I check it and fix any mistakes, it will be for sale on Amazon. The book is about a particular document that was at the center of the economic revolution in the United Kingdom in the 1980s. I worked with the archivist at the University of Cambridge who curates Lady Thatcher’s papers, as well as the widow of the man who drew the diagram.
The book will be available in e-book form, black-and-white printed, and color printed. I will make the e-book version free for three days when it is finished. The color printed version is the best but also the most expensive, so the free e-book will be an easy way for people to have a “test drive.”
Below is a short clip from the 2007 BBC Four documentary, “Tory! Tory! Tory!.” It gives just a wee taste of the economic drama that was building when the wiring diagram was drawn. I’ll post more clips later of some of the speeches and issues mentioned in the book.
